Condenser Covers
Condenser Covers
January 19, 2023
Good or Bad??
Many believe covers are a necessity to keep your condensers safe during our snowy New England winter. Contrary to this belief, it is NOT recommended to cover your AC condenser during the winter. Here is why:
1. Outdoor condensers are designed and tested to withstand the elements from extreme heat and to extreme cold.
2. When you wrap your condenser, you run the risk of moisture and condensation forming within. This can cause your system to rust and corrode the coils.
3. Covers create the PERFECT home for rodents to make a cozy winter home. Rodent nest debri can clog the coils and rodents will likely chew through electrical wires.
Still worried about snow getting inside?
Cover only the top with a simple piece of plywood.
**Heat Pump Condensers used for heating and cooling should NEVER be covered as they are in used all year.

Keep the Heat In!
Keep the Heat In!
December 10, 2022
If you have a drafty home, your system will have to work harder to keep up, reducing the efficiency it is designed to have! Perhaps replacing old windows, doors, or whole home insulation isn’t in the budget. Here is a list of things to do that won’t break the bank:
- Make sure windows are closed and in locked position, creating the tightest seal possible
- Caulk around window sill to seal any drafts
- Apply weather-stripping to doors and windows
- Allow the sun to do its work during the day
- Close blinds, curtains, and drapes at night to keep heat in
- Upgrade to thermal lined curtains or drapes
- Heat rises! Add insulated cap to attic entrances to keep heat from escaping
- Did we mention heat rises? Turn your ceiling fan to clockwise and put it on the lowest setting to gently move the warm air back down

The Importance of a Clean Air Filter
The Importance of a Clean Air Filter
November 24, 2022
The dirtier the filter, the less efficient your system is, and the quicker problems can arise! Air filters collect all kinds of pollen, pet fur, dirt, dust, and particles that reduce air flow. Filters not only filter the air in your home, they protect the sensitive components of your HVAC system. An unnoticed clogged filter will put strain on your system and parts can fail.
There are many factors that can cause your filter to get dirtier faster! If you find yourself saying ‘YES’ to 1 or more from the list below, it's beneficial to check your filter every 2 months:
- Do you live near a body of water?
- Do you live in a heavy wooded area?
- Do you have pets?
- Do you burn candles often?
- Do you have smokers in the house?
Dodge Cooling and Heating can advise our customers how often to check their filters in between annual or biannual maintenance. Give us a call!
